When it comes to clothing, what's the norm?
Things like the steam trains and such are around.
The victorian era.
So I was looking up clothes from that time.
Do the girls have to wear big poofy dresses or is it more modern dressing?

Dresses, corsets, leggings, etc. Medieval-like clothing is also acceptable.

No emo/punk/scene/whatever dress styles. Or converse, lol.

I, myself, would imagine steampunk clothing to appear turn-of-the-century-ish, with some Victorian-era tidbits thrown in. Big poofy dresses were in style for most women, and they usually covered up all their "rude bits" - shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, ankles, and most of the neck. The bigger the dress, the richer you appeared! Less poofy dresses were worn duiring the day, though, and when they went out about town for ballroom dancing they would put on a grander dress. Women would bundle up in dozens of layers, even in the heat of summer, to appear modest. Even their underwear came down to their knees.

Corsets were big, and a lot of women (and men, it was in style for them, too) suffocated and had their organs squished together to get the hourglass shape. In fact, the ideal figure was for a woman's lover to be able to fit his hands around her waist with the fingertips touching! :U

Now, since this is a steampunk forum here, and it's a complete fantasy, your character does not have to wear a big dress. But keep in mind that gears and goggles and brass are the newest, grandest thing. It's all up to you! :'D
