Overview
The heart and soul of Sideris beats with pride. War and threats from outside their borders has defined the country and its people. The theme of brotherhood is at the core of Sideris’ collective mind. The citizens here believe that the group is far more important than the individual. Tradition governs Sideris’ mindset. They have a uniform system in which people are expected to adhere to. Their system works and they see no reason to deviate from it. They do not encourage thoughts or political beliefs that go against the norms. The government is known to take a firm stance against their dissenters and it is due to this that the dungeons in Dirge always have a high population.
Dirge stands as the capitol city of Sideris. It is here that the royal family and most of Sideris’ citizens of worth live. Industry is strong in Dirge and many of the citizens make their living working in factories. Unlike Silvereye, Dirge pays attention to all of its inhabitants. Government assistance for the poor does exist but the system is imperfect. They often work the worst and most dangerous jobs for meager pay. The nationalistic pride, however, helps curb any feelings of bitterness. Everyone is born and raised to believe that the ultimate goal is to contribute to society.
Though opinions among members of the royal family may differ, they generally work together. Betrayal is a disgusting concept and forcibly removing someone from power is done only during the most dire of circumstances.
The economy and government in Sideris is such that all citizens enjoy support and some level of security but it is obvious that the most privileged people are either merchants or serve in the military. Soldiers and their families are compensated for their service and enjoy a higher standard of living than most. It is because of this that recruitment into the military is strong.
Freedom is a relative thing in Sideris. Military presence is strong in Dirge, with soldiers patrolling virtually every street. Breaking the law is met with swift rebuttal and the punishments in Sideris are often harsh. The port city of Fossgate has a lesser military presence that watches and investigates the trade that flows in and out of the city. Though the soldiers are aware of pirates and mercenaries within Fossgate, they can do nothing until someone breaks the law.
The city of Howe has been left to rot. The feeling of brotherhood does not extend this far and the government sees the city as too far gone to be saved. They focus their assets on the cities that produce the most revenue and resources. Howe, on Sideris, is home to the unwanted, to those dissatisfied with the government.
Sideris focuses on developing technologies that supplement their military. Their airship fleet is something to be both envied and feared.
