Animals
Any MODERN animal within our world can exist within Halfmoon. This means tigers are okay but smilodons are not; grey wolves are okay but dire wolves are not. Piggy backing off that, any modern animal species can also be of the Folk, including realistic hybrids (mules, tigons, wolf-dogs, etc.)
Monsters
NPC monster creation is open ended for Halfmoon. You may make up random creatures in the forests and the Grey Wastes to attack your rp party; just assume that said creatures are freaks or mutations. You may NOT take these NPC monsters as pets without mod permission. NPC monsters may use magic if you want.
Specific monsters are grounded into the world of Halfmoon, such as Grey Stalkers and the giant beasts of Brumeveil. There are also mythical creatures, which you may include if you can provide a wiki page or something to prove it exists within folklore (dragons, unicorns, kelpies, etc.)
This excludes human to creature shapeshifters like werewolves and vampires. The only way for a playable character to 'transform' into something else is by curse via a witch or object.
The Giant Beasts of Brumeveil
Giant, self aware animals roam Brumeveil forest. It's not believed they can use actual magic, but an old legend says that these creatures granted awareness to some animals, creating the Folk. Some witches and scientists alike suspect that these creatures are what's prompting nature to reclaim dingy areas in society; like generals sending out soldiers. They're rarely seen, however, and probably eat the common passerby.
