Name: Darius Eddard Freegard Nickname: Darius, Ned Pronunciation: [dare-eass] / [dah-rius] [ed-ard] [free-gard] Meaning: Roman form of Δαρειος (Dareios), which was the Greek form of the Persian name Dārayavahush, which was composed of the elements dâraya "to possess" and vahu "good". Three ancient kings of Persia bore this name, including Darius the Great who invaded Greece but was defeated in the Battle of Marathon. It has never been very common as a given name in the English-speaking world, though it rose in popularity after the middle of the 20th century. Claire- Ambitious runt who has a tendency to get into accidents. She is either the most dangerous or the least dangerous of them all. Darius thinks if anything will be the downfall of her it will most likely be herself.
Cecilia- A doormat if there ever was one. His sister is a ‘lady’. If ever there was a sibling Darius sided with, however, it’s her.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Quite, observant, Darius stands at the back of the crowd and listens. He hears everything that goes on inside the castle walls and knows of every political struggle, even small things others may have forgotten. The intelligent prince never forgets and perhaps this and his ability to fight are the only things truly dangerous about him. Wearing a mask of indifference, Darius is difficult to figure out…except amongst his family members, who have known his antics since his birth.
Darius doesn’t participate in the fight over power, or who is to be the next heir to the throne, which makes him easily mistaken for being incorrigible and lacking and sort of ambition. Seeing himself lucky to have what he does, even though his family is a clusterf*ck of political turmoil, Darius doesn’t bother himself with the little things. Although Darius himself doesn’t participate much in the battle for power and prestige, he is cynically criticizing of all of his siblings and skeptical of their every move. His observant nature causes him to find flaws in each of them that denounce them as ever being capable rulers and he mocks them…if only in his head.
In social situations Darius is the polite gentleman; always speaking in a gentle eloquent way. The way he speaks is not merely a façade for Darius; but an actual habit. If dropped off in the slums and left to fend for himself he would still speak in this manner. He would even bother to call his greatest enemies ‘sir’ and ‘madam’. In anger he shouts these pretty words at whoever caused him grief. It is a bit of a personality quirk he is sometimes made fun of for, but he enjoys it nonetheless.
His lawful personality takes form in his beliefs of fairness; the war with Sideris should be won through physical prowess and battle instead of things like the Halfsun bomb. This is where Darius disagrees with the politics of the world. His strong beliefs are difficult to see, for he rarely brings voice to them, often giving the sign that he is a doormat at its worse. Perhaps Darius is plotting something that no one else can see, however? Only time will tell.
(Pre-RP) Darius was as boyish as any boy could get; almost out of sync with his noble blood. Mud was a thing to play in and get covered with and stray dogs were things to tie cans to and chase with sticks. Sisters were there to make fun of and make cry, if not have bloody fist battles with. His devious, violent nature was what made it hard to see he would grow into such a mellow individual. But once he had hit his preteen years the games became more serious; his siblings and him were training to battle and in the back of his mind he realized this was because they were put on the world to kill each other. This realization was enough to make him quickly grow wiser in spite of his age. Training became very important to him, for the sole reason he needed to defend himself from being murdered by his own family; if not the unlawful citizens of the kingdom he lived int.
(Post RP) ◘ Derp
-Darius carries a smallsword and a flintlock with him at all times. He is a bit of a sharpshooter and is proficient at dual wielding in melee; he knows how to fight.
-Darius is fond of riding his big black destrier named Ice. Ice is a vicious bastard that is fond of kicking and biting other people and horses, but tends to act as gentle as a gelding in Darius’ hands.
