Description:
Standing at 5’9’’ – 5’10’’, Siren is an average height for a human. She is pale and thin, with sharp, slanted violet eyes. Her hair is dark, and completely straight, falling down to the middle of her back – though it is usually pulled up in a messy bun or hidden under her hood. Though Siren can be beautiful if she tries, her most normal appearance is one of carelessness. She is far more concerned with hunting down Witches and fulfilling her own personal interests than bothering too much with her appearance…though her love of jewelry suggests at least some vanity.
All in all, Siren can be an imposing figure. There is something in her eyes, expression or the way she holds herself that can make even the tallest person shrink down to her size.
Siren is one of those sorts who are all about smarts and cunning, but unfortunately put said amazing faculties to use in bitter and sarcastic comments aimed specifically to most injure others around her. She is not completely sadistic - indeed, one could find gems of good nature buried deep in her personality - but if she is not sadistic than she at least partakes in schadenfreude. Nothing pleases her more to know that any competition has been thwarted, or some soul who had injured her in the past has met with great misfortune. She cares not for helping others unless it in some way benefits herself and often says so. Neither tears nor begging do anything to move her. If she finds one in such a state, she readily puts them at fault for not being strong enough.
That being said, Siren is a firm misanthrope. She distrusts everyone and anything almost instantly. She believes, like herself, that all people are only out for themselves and often goes on long tirades about the decadence of all sentient races.
Her tongue is most bitter, but is somehow elegant in speech. Her great skill at speech-making is one of her most valued talents, second only to her thievery. If it came into her head she could charm the most disgruntled of men into parting with all their valuables. Siren is not above cheating the poor any more than she would balk at cheating the rich, young, old, human or otherwise. Siren has been known to be a little pretentious, as it were. Her latest title that she has bestowed upon herself and known among other bounty-hunters is "The Queen of Thieves".
For all that, though, Siren is grudgingly loyal once she has found someone she is partial to, and many suspect that underneath lies a person who, if it really came down to it, would do all they can to ensure a better future for all.
Relationships:
Her parents: Her parents are too old now to bother her, and live in some remote farmland in Sideris. They are just as greedy and bad-tempered as she is. Siren hardly visits or interacts with them at all.
Gracie Gil: Siren’s younger sister. Both prefer to stay away from each other. Gracie is a snobby singer of mediocre talent who believes that she is far more important than she is. She acts like a diva, and gets on the nerves of everyone who happens to have the misfortune of being around her at the time. Siren thinks that it is rather sad, in actuality; though Gracie’s head is as inflated as a hot balloon, her basic talent as a singer keeps her from raking in any trace of a steady income (not to mention her horrible personality ensures she stays alone throughout her miserable life). Out of pity, Siren will sometimes grant her money to keep her afloat for another few months or so.
Ronald Gil: He longed to be a soldier in the Sideris army, but their family’s status prevented him from doing so. Siren couldn’t fathom how useful he’d be there, anyway; Ronald was quite clearly wrapped up in dreams of heroic endeavor, but really he was just a sloppy, lazy, and frankly, useless boy. This was proven more or less correct when Ronald, fed up with the farm life, ran off to become a soldier. He forged papers and a family name, and got away with it a bit; however, Ronald soon began to flounder. He could not keep up with a soldier’s rigid schedule, and he soon found out that he did not have any talent with a weapon to make up for it, nor an eye for strategy. He fell into disrepair, drinking excessively and shirking his duties. Ronald was put on probation, and from there his deception was found out; he would have been sentenced for years if his family had not bailed him out.
Thus, Ronald was free, but at the expense of the last of the Gil family fortune. Now they are dirt poor, and Ronald is forced to live with his parents, working on the farm for every last penny they could afford. He is regarded as a failure by the rest of the family. Siren herself refuses to see him.
Jahel Yasmeir: Siren and Jahel met during the whole Ronald fiasco. She was visiting him in jail when they came across each other and they had an instant (and spontaneous, Siren would often say) attraction. Learning that she was a skilled witch-hunter, she found herself commissioned many times to track down a witch; the relationship progressed from there, ending in a rather odd relationship. They would “date” – an unspoken term between the two of them, in which they did things that couples were rumored to do – no more than a month or two, then inevitably break up when one became too busy or had to go somewhere or became bored (again, all within an unspoken understanding). Each would then do their own thing, even finding other partners for a while - but they both had a strange way of coming back to each other.
Then, Siren became pregnant and bore Jahel’s son. She left the child with him.
Even now, they occasionally have their odd on-and-off again relationship.
Rhett Yasmeir: Siren’s son. She did not want the child when she had it, and Jahel had better resources to care for him anyway, but giving him up is one of Siren’s biggest regrets. Rhett does not even know that she is his real mother, for the sake of both Jahel’s and Siren’s reputation.
History:
Siren was born on her family farm, the oldest of three children. She’d always been the bossy one. The entire family seemed to be severely lacking in the “empathy” gene, after all. She was often cross and impatient with her younger siblings, who were not nearly as intelligent as she was, what with Gracie singing with a voice fit for yowling cats and Ronald sitting about and hitting things with sticks rather than doing what needed to be done.
Her parents were obvious bigots against witches. They often told the children stories of the dangers they imposed and proclaimed that they would have loved to see them all executed. Siren had never a particularly good opinion of her parents, but this mindset seemed to have gotten to her, as she became interested in the practice of witch-hunting.
This was not too much of a stretch. Siren already had a habit of indulging in shady practices. She was a master pick-pocket at an early age, quickly learning that she had deft fingers and an eye for misfortune. She managed to catch the attention of a local nobleman after attempting to steal his pocket-watch, who introduced himself to her parents and suggested she undertake the training and education necessary to take on rogue witches. Her parents were not against it. It was one less mouth to feed, anyway.
And so Siren found herself in the capitol. She was secretly excited and pleased with herself by escaping the farm life for ever; this was her light at the end of the tunnel. Siren studied hard, educating and training her physical body to be swifter, stronger and more accurate.
In time, her competitive nature ensured her a place among the Witch-Hunters. Hunting became a great joy to her; she never met a witch she liked. From commissions, competitions and otherwise, Siren built up a fearsome reputation, earning the nickname “Siren” instead of Burnadette, thanks to her affinity for luring male witches with seduction and other unconventional means before killing or arresting them.
Her relationship with Jahel is a subject of gossip among circles of Sideris nobility and is speculated among its citizens, but neither reveal much about it. Though Siren’s pregnancy was by no means a secret affair, she refused to speak of its father, and shortly after it was born she’d gotten rid of it. Not that anyone didn’t notice the strange coincidence that Siren seemed to have lost a newborn while Jahel had simultaneously seemed to receive one.
To this day her son is not aware of his true mother, and this is a source of much regret for Siren.
Miscellaneous: (I kinda want her to be in the trained Witch-Hunter sect of Sideris, maybe even the Head, but I don't want to take up too many canon character slots. xD; I'd like to know your opinion. :0 )
